The Centre for Research in Nigerian Languages, Translation, and Folklore (CRNLT&F) continues to make significant strides in promoting Nigerian languages, translation, and folklore studies. Below is an update on our latest activities, achievements, and collaborations:

Major Activities in 2024

Translation Harmonization Roundtable
A successful one-day roundtable discussion was hosted to address translation harmonization, fostering dialogue among experts in the field.

1st Nupe International Conference
The Centre hosted the inaugural Nupe International Conference, bringing together scholars and experts to discuss the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of the Nupe people.

International Exchange Program
CRNLT&F welcomed nine foreign students and a professor from the University of Warsaw, Poland, under its academic linkage initiative.

Digitization of Library Archives
The Centre commenced a major project on digitizing reading and archival materials in its library, ensuring easier access and long-term preservation of valuable resources.

Publication of Harsunan Nijeriya Journal (2024 Edition)
The Centre successfully published its flagship journal, Harsunan Nijeriya, which continues to contribute to academic discussions on Nigerian languages.

Semantics Book of Readings
A new book on semantics is currently in the press and will be available soon for scholars and students.

Strengthening International Partnerships

  • Finalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Bayero University, Kano, and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London.
  • Signed an MOU with Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), China, further expanding global academic collaboration
  • University of Warsaw, Poland: The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, recently visited the University of Warsaw to strengthen bilateral relations. This collaboration continues to facilitate cultural and academic exchanges.
  • Beijing Foreign Studies University, China: The Centre's Director, Prof. Yakubu Magaji Azare, participated in the China-Africa Cooperation and African Development forum, reinforcing ties between BFSU and BUK.
  • Local and National Collaborations: CRNLT&F is actively working with various Nigerian universities and research institutions to promote indigenous language studies and translation initiatives.

📝 Workshops and Capacity Building

  • A three-day workshop for traditional medicine practitioners on storage and preservation techniques.
  • A professional translation course on legal terms for court officials, media personnel, and legislative staff.
  • A capacity-building workshop on harmonization of Hausa orthography.

  • Harsunan Nijeriya Journal (2025 Edition)
  • Maiden editions of Kimiyya, Lafiya da Magani Journal

🤝 Strengthening Collaborations
The Centre aims to expand its network with local and international partners to foster research and exchange programs.
